The Upcoming TCG Dilemma

Updated: Jul 4

2026, what a time to be a Pokemon fan. Mega evolution is back, Animal Crossing: Pokémon Edition is getting DLC. Several animation projects are happening and the trading card game set celebrating the franchise’s 30th Anniversary has finally revealed all of the upcoming products along with some of the promo cards. Now we know what you’re thinking. “The 30th Anniversary set is more sad than it is exciting. No longtime or even new fans of the franchise will ever get their hands on these products.”

It’s understandable, there have been glaring problems with acquiring Pokemon TCG products for several years now. With resale prices getting higher and higher due to people with less than honorable motives. Whilst several people keep speculating about a “bubble” finally popping, (prices reaching their upper limit and finally crashing back down to reasonable levels), there is another angle that might offer some more optimism.

The overinflated resale value of Pokémon TCG products can be reasonably mapped onto specific sets and specific Pokemon. Certain Kanto Pokémon like Charizard and Gengar. The Eevee line and all of its evolution's, new fancy Pikachu cards. And then there’s an outlier that’s a bit different but still grabs a lot of attention when it comes back around, Mega Rayquaza.

Weather planned deliberately or a complete mistaken coincidence, the most powerful Mega in the franchise’s history might give the 30th Anniversary set a bit of competition when it comes to the attention of opportunists. With “Delta Reign” releasing while additional waves of “30th Celebration” release, certain people will have to make the decision on whether to focus on the Anniversary set or the "Delta Reign" set with Mega Rayquaza in it.

This may be a beneficial dilemma for certain fans. Time will tell if one set is more available then the other. Whatever the case may be if you find yourself on the lookout for either of these TCG sets in the future we wish you the best of luck out there. Here’s hoping for better availability, better pricing, and better pulls in the near future.
